McCain - Lieberman 2008 ?
Posted by Ted Keer on 8/19, 4:53pm
The trial balloons for a McCain-Liebrman ticket have been released. Paleo-Conservatives like Rich Lowry are threatening revolt. I think the pick is brilliant. Lieberman will not truly hurt McCain with conservatives. Who else are they going to vote for? Bob Hope? Putting Lieberman on the ticket puts the North East more in play for the Republicans. But it does not necessarily set Lieberman up as a successor. Connecticut's governor is a Republican, meaning he would be replaced by a Republican in the Senate. The only down side I see is McCain and Lieberman's "Stewardship" act. But having two credible hawks in the White House will have a much better effect on Putin and Ahmedinejad than having two pretty Democrat patsies - or Ron "I'm still in the race" Paul. (I'm all for the fantasy of the religious paleo-con Bob Barr as president, although why the Libertarians want this conservative hawk escapes me.)
